Indians Are 14-2, 6-0 In Region
The Vidalia High School Indians softball team picked up wins over Jeff Davis and East Laurens last week and had two games against top class team on Friday rained out. The wins give the Indians a 14-2 record overall and they are 6-0 in Region play.
VHS vs. Jeff Davis
The Indians scored in all but one inning as they took on the Yellow Jackets in Hazelhurst. Ashtyn Braddy led off with an infield single, and the Emma Humphey was hit by a pitch to put two runners on base. Tori Wright came through with an RBI double to put the first run on the board. Bailey Holland beat out a slow roller to put VHS up 2-0. Alli Taufmann brought in Wright with a bunt for a 3-0 lead over the Yellow Jackets.
Jeff Davis did put a couple of runners on base in the bottom of the first inning, but Holland pitched her way out of the jam.
In the top of the second inning Rileigh Robinson reached base, and then a single by Humphrey put runners at the corners. Wright hit an RBI single to push the lead to 4-0. In the top of the fourth inning Wright scored on a hit by Holland for a bit of cushion at 5-3. The Indians got a hit by Taufmann in the fifth, and a double by Madison Starr to put two on base. Robinson got on to load the bases, and then Braddy walked to bring in a run for a 6-3 lead. Jeff Davis scored two more runs in the bottom of the inning as they closed the VHS lead back to 6-5. In the top of the sixth inning VHS had two runners on base with no outs, and Jeff Davis made a pitching change. Taufmann hit a shot to the fence for an RBI double. Lydia Smith bunted in two runs on a throwing error for a 9-5 lead. The Indians plated two more runs in the top of the seventh inning as they took an 11-5 lead into the bottom of the final inning. Holland closed out the game for the 11-5 win. She had 9 strikeouts in the game and led the team at the plate with 4 hits and 2 RBI's. Wright and Taufmann each had 2 RBI's as well.
VHS vs. E. Laurens
The Indians got a great pitching performance from Starr on Thursday night as she threw a one-hitter against the Falcons. VHS scored four runs in the top of the first inning for a 4-0 lead. In the top of the fourth inning Jesslyn Collins picked up a double and scored on a single by Braddy. VHS added four more runs with two outs in the inning. Wright hit in Braddy, and then hits by Humphrey and Tymber Harris plated another run. Robinson added to the lead with a hit, and by the end of the inning the Indians led 9-0.
VHS held on in the fourth and fifth as they won the game by the run rule, 9-0 in five innings.
This week VHS will be at home on Wednesday against Jeff Davis at 5:45 p.m. They will host Swainsboro on Thursday at 5:45 p.m. and will be at Southeast Bulloch on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
