Toombs Wins Over Lady Tigers
The Toombs County High School softball team picked up a win over Swainsboro last Tuesday. They had a game on Wednesday rained out, and then had a game on Thursday cancelled due to COVID. Toombs also played on Saturday at the Jeff Davis Tournament, falling to Lanier County and Bulloch Academy.
TCHS vs. Swainsboro
TCHS stole the lead late and defeated Swainsboro 7-6 on Tuesday. Toombs got on the board first with a run in the top of the first inning. TCHS built a six-run lead in the second inning and then held off Swainsboro's charge.
Swainsboro battled back and the game was tied 6-6 with Toombs batting in the top of the seventh when Arlie Gooden laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run.
Krista Cantwell pitched Toombs to victory. She allowed five hits and six runs over five and a third innings, walking one. Gooden threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen. Gooden recorded the last five outs to earn the save for Toombs. KK Mobley led Toombs hitting as she was 2-4 at the plate.
TCHS at Jeff Davis Tournament Toombs played two games at the Jeff Davis Tournament on Saturday and fell in both contests. They faced Lanier County and Bulloch Academy. Lanier won over the Lady Bulldogs 7-0. Toombs got the bats going in the second game as they took on Bulloch, but came up just short, losing 12-10.
Toombs hosted Jeff Davis on Tuesday after presstime and will be back in action on Thursday when East Laurens comes to Lyons for a game at 6:00 p.m.
