Wheeler Takes 2 From Metter
The Wheeler County High School Lady Bulldogs softball team had a double header against Metter on Monday of last week and took two wins from the Lady Tigers. They then went to face rival Treutlen County in Soperton on Tuesday night and fell in that game.
Wheeler vs. Metter Game 1
Wheeler County Bulldogs Varsity had all cylinders firing on offense on Monday, winning big over Metter 8-1. Metter got things started in the second inning when they picked up a run on a fielder's choice. Wheeler pulled away with three runs in the third inning. In the third Tess Vann grounded out, scoring one run and Keleiyah Harris singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs. Wheeler scored three more runs in the sixth inning.
Wheeler took the win 8-1.
Wheeler was led by Vann, Harris, and Amy Dalton, all sending runners across the platewithRBIs. Alli Hartley was in the circle and went all seven innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out nine and walking one.
Game 2
Wheeler County Bulldogs Varsity pulled away for good with three runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Hartley hit into a fielder's choice, which brought in a run, and an error scored one more run for the Bulldogs. Summer Vann singled on a 2-1 count, scoring another run. Wheeler added three runs in the sixth inning.
The offensive was led by Vann and Ariel Reynolds, all knocking in runs. Wheeler took the win in Game 2, 6-4. Emily Conner was in the pitcher's circle for Wheeler and allowed five hits and two runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out six.
Wheeler vs. Treutlen
One big inning was the difference in the game as Treutlen got the win. The game was a pitching dual with neither team scoring in the first two innings. In the top of the third inning Wheeler broke on board with one run to take a 1-0 lead. Treutlen was held scoreless until the sixth inning when they came up and plated four runs to jump out to the 4-1 lead. Wheeler added one more run in the top of the seventh inning, but the Vikings got the 4-2 win. This week the Lady Bulldogs played Swainsboro on Monday and Dublin on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Thursday when they host Telfair County at 5:30 p.m.
