Two Injured in Mishap Near Alamo

Two persons were injured in a one-vehicle accident just outside of Alamo on Thursday, September 17. The Georgia State Patrol investigated the mishap on Georgia Highway 280 near Sandy Loop Road. Jacob Charles Johnson, 18, a resident of Snowhill Baptist Church Road in Wheeler County, was traveling west when he failed to maintain his lane of traffic, left the road and struck and embankment. After striking the embankment, Johnson’s pickup vaulted approximately 121 feet, landing on its roof in a ditch. The vehicle slid on its roof for another 62 feet before coming to rest.

Johnson was transported by air ambulance to Memorial Hospital in Savannah. His 15-year-old passenger, a resident of Glenwood, was taken by ambulance to Dodge County Hospital. The GSP report noted that the passenger said, “The truck suddenly pulled to the right and there was nothing the driver could do.” The passenger also said, “Something must have broken in the front end of the vehicle.” The investigating trooper could not determine if there was a mechanical failure prior to the crash.
