Bulldogs Win Over E. Laurens
The Toombs County High School softball team had a busy week last week as they had a double header on Wednesday at West Laurens and then were on the road at Jeff Davis on Thursday. They also played against East Laurens on Monday of this week. The Bulldogs are trying to hold on to fourth place in the Region to get into the State Playoffs and it appears that they will do just that.
TCHS vs. W. Laurens Game 1
West Laurens took two games from Toombs County on Wednesday of last week in Dexter. The Raiders got things going in the first inning with two runs. Toombs picked up a run in the top of the second inning, but it was the only one that they could get in the game. West Laurens added two in the third and three more in the fourth to hold a 7-1 lead. They added one more in the fifth inning on their way to an 8-1 win in the first game of the double header.
TCHS vs. W. Laurens Game 2
In the second game the Bulldogs kept it closer for much of the game. The Raiders scored first with a run in the second inning, and added another in the third for a 2-0 lead. They opened the game up finally in the fifth inning with four runs as they went ahead 6- 0. West Laurens picked up one more run in the sixth inning. Toombs finally scored in the top of the seventh inning with one run, but fell to the Raiders, 7-1.
TCHS vs. Jeff Davis
Toombs was in Hazlehurst to take on the #2 ranked team in the state in AA on Thursday of last week and fell to the Yellow Jackets. Jeff Davis picked up three runs in the first inning and added two more in the second for a 5-0 lead. They scored one in the fourth to push it to 6-0.
Toombs put two runs on the board in the top of the fifth inning, but Jeff Davis scored four in the bottom half of the frame as they took the win by the run rule, 10-2.
TCHS vs. East Laurens
Toombs hosted East Laurens on Monday of this week, and with that looks to have wrapped up fourth place in the Region. Toombs scored three times in the bottom of the first inning to take the early lead on the Falcons. East Laurens came back in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game at 3-3, but the Bulldogs answered in the bottom half of the inning with four runs to jump back ahead, 7-3. TCHS added a run in the fifth inning and then three more in the sixth to win the game by the run rule, 11-3. Toombs got 2 RBIs each from Riley Lumley and Ziya Griffin. They also walked seven times in the game and East Laurens committed seven errors to aid the Bulldogs. This week Toombs hosted Vidalia on Tuesday after presstime and will be at Swainsboro on Thursday and will play their final game of the regular season next Tuesday on the road at East Laurens.
