Lyons PD Arrests Three in Drug Sting
Three men are behind bars after an officer with the Lyons Police Department discovered drugs and guns in their pickup truck during a traffic stop. According to a report made available on September 30, around midnight on September 13, Sgt. Matt Lynn was working traffic on U.S. Highway 1, north, when he met a pickup truck with one headlight out. The officer pulled the truck over and immediately smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle. After further investigation he searched the vehicle and discovered a hidden compartment that contained illegal drugs and scales. Also discovered in the search were several guns and a large amount of crystal methamphetamines, Jessie Dewayne Weeks, Jr. 22, of Adrian, Anthony Dakota Tapley 19, of Kite, and Casey Alton Henry, 43, of Swainsboro, were arrested and charged with traffi cking in methamphetamines, possession of marijuana (less than an ounce), possession of drug-related objects, possession of firearms by a convicted felon, possession of firearms during the commission of a crime, DUI less safe drugs, headlight requirement, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of methamphetamines with intent to distribute. The suspects are being held in the Toombs County Jail. Prior to this incident Sgt. Lynn had attended a threeday criminal interdiction class in Tifton. During the stop Sgt. Lynn began to see signs of illegal activity that he had learned in the class that furthered his investigation and led to the discovery of the hidden compartment and the seizure of the illegal drugs and guns. “This is a perfect example of how the training these officers on a yearly basis helps them in doing their jobs effectively,” said Lyons Police Chief Wesley Walker.
