Mr. Leland Ely

Mr. Leland Ely, age 82, died on Thursday, December 31, 2020, at University

Hospital in Augusta. Mr. Ely was a lifelong resident of Soperton and was a 1957 graduate of Treutlen County High School, where he was the class President and Valedictorian. He had a long career in accounting, working at the Soperton Fertilizer and Guano Company for the Hall family. He worked as an Accountant and Tax Preparer with Ernest Jones & Associates in Dublin for 40 years and with McClain, Calhoun, McCullough and Clark in Vidalia since 2012. He grew up attending Blackville Church of God, later attended Emmanuel Church of the Nazarene in Adrian, the Soperton Church of God, and was a member of St. Mark Church of the Nazarene. He was a lifelong Sunday School teacher. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Braddy Ely; and siblings, Ruby Cannady, Barnett Ely, H.B. Ely, Jimmy Ely and Doris Thigpen.

Survivors include 1 son, Brian Ely (Joanne), Lincolnton; 1 daughter, Susan Padgett (Jim), Evans; 1 brother, James Ely, Soperton; 4 grandchildren, Kaylee Braddy, Hannah Padgett, Jake Padgett (Anna), and Colton Ely; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, January 3, 2021, at 3:00 p.m., in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home, with Rev. Tim Hicks and Rev. Randy Smith officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Olive Cemetery in Wrightsville.

Pallbearers were Wes Brantley, Stacey Westberry, Rohn Barnhill, Mark Bryngleson, Vince Eubanks and Grayson Givens.

Sammons Funeral Home in Soperton was in charge of arrangements.
