Bulldogs Get 2 In A Row

The Wheeler County High School Bulldogs basketball teams had a busy week last week. They traveled to Dooly County on Tuesday, the boys played Hawkinsville on Wednesday at home, both teams hosted Johnson County on Friday and then the girls were at Telfair County on Saturday.

Wheeler vs. Dooley

It was a rough game for the Lady Bulldogs as they could not get anything to fall. They scored just six points in the game as they lost 81-6 to the Bobcats of Dooly County. The boys also fell to the Bobcats, and one player from Dooly, Eric Ivory was the reason as he scored 41 points in the game. Wheeler dropped the game 71-41 to the Bobcats.

Boys vs. Hawkinsville

The Bulldogs picked up their third win of the season as they hosted the Red Devils of Hawkinsville on Wednesday. Wheeler led the game 9-7 at the end of the first period, and pulled ahead to a 27-20 lead by the end of the first half.

In the third period Hawkinsville came storming back as they outscored Wheeler 17-7 to take a 37-34 lead into the fourth. Wheeler did just enough in the fourth as they came away with the win, 51-48.

Wheeler vs. Johnson

The Lady Bulldogs dropped their game to Johnson County at home on Friday night, but the boys got their second win in a row. Wheeler led the boys game 7-6 at the end of the first, and extended that lead in the second as they held a 21-16 halftime lead.

In the third period Wheeler pulled ahead to lead 38-26 and went on to win the game 58-42 over the Trojans.

Boys vs. Telfair

The boys played one more game on Saturday against Telfair County and dropped this game. Wheeler came out and took the early lead. The Bulldogs were on top 20-11 at the end of the first. In the second the Trojans began to close in and were trailing 29-22 at halftime to the Bulldogs. In the third Telfair outscored Wheeler 15-8 as they tied the game at 37-37. Telfair pulled away late to win the game 55-49 over Wheeler. The boys are now 4-8 on the year and they are 3-7 in Region play while the girls are 0-9 on the season. This week Wheeler hosted Dublin on Tuesday after presstime and will be back in action on Thursday when they host Wilcox County. The Bulldogs will take on rival Treutlen County at home on Friday with games starting at 6:00 p.m. both days.
