Treutlen Takes 2-3 From Wheeler
The Wheeler County and Treutlen County high schools' baseball teams played three Region games against each other last week with the Vikings taking two of three from the Bulldogs.
Game 1
The first game of the three game series took extra innings before it was decided. Wheeler got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning with one run, but Treutlen answered in the top of the third with a pair of runs to take a 2-1 lead over the Bulldogs. The Vikings added a run in the top of the third to go ahead 3-1, but in the bottom of the fifth Wheeler plated two to tie the game at 3-3.
Treutlen added a run in the top of the sixth inning to go back on top, but in the bottom half of the frame Wheeler put two runs on the board to jump back in front, 5-4. The Vikings came through in the top of the seventh inning with a run to tie the game, and then held in the bottom half to send the game to extra innings. In the top of the eighth Treutlen scored two runs to take a 7-5 lead over Wheeler. In the bottom the Bulldogs could not get any runs across as Treutlen took the 7-5 win.
Game 2-3
On Friday the two teams played a double header, and the two games could not have been any different. In the first game of the day the Bulldogs rolled to a win. They didn't allow the Vikings to score, and the Bulldogs put eight runs on the board to take an 8-0 win. In the second game of the double header the roles were exactly reversed. In this game it was Wheeler that did not score while the Vikings scored eight runs to take an 8-0 win over the Bulldogs.
This week Wheeler will take on Wilcox County in their three game Region series. They played the first game on Tuesday after presstime and will be back in action at home on Friday for a double header with the first game starting at 4:00 p.m.
