Wheeler Drops Three To Wilcox
It was a rough week for the Bulldog baseball team of Wheeler County High School as they were swept in a three-game Region series by the Patriots of Wilcox County.
Game 1
In the first game of the series on Tuesday in Rochelle, Wheeeler took the early lead with a run in the top of the first inning, but in the bottom of the second inning Wilcox made a move with three runs to take the lead, 3-1. The Patriots added three more in the fourth inning and then capped off the game with five in the bottom of the sixth to win by the run rule, 11-1.
Game 2
On Friday the Bulldogs and Patriots met for a double header in Alamo. In the first game Wilcox put two on the board in the first inning, and four more in the second as they built up a 6-0 lead.
They added a run in each of the fourth and sixth innings to get the 8-0 win over Wheeler.
Game 3
It was another run rule game for the Patriots over Wheeler in the night cap of the Friday double header. Wilcox had three runs in the first, but Wheeler held them in the second and third innings.
The Patriots added one in the fourth, and then exploded for 10 runs in the fifth inning to close out the game by the run rule, 14-0. Wheeler is now 1-10 on the season, and 1-5 in Region play. This week they will face off with Telfair County for a three-game series. The first game was on Tuesday after presstime, and they will play a double header on Friday in McRae with the first game starting at 4:00 p.m.
