Mrs. Vera Whitaker King, age 93, of Higgston, died on Monday, March 22, 2021, at her home after a brief illness.

Mrs. King was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County and lived near Higgston all of her life. In her early years, she worked with Rosebud Manufacturing and retired from Oxford Industries after many years. She was a member of Higgston Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Milray King; 1 son, Jarvis King; her parents, Harmon Whitaker and Florida Morris Whitaker; 3 brothers, Gene, Tony, and Ronnie Whitaker; and 4 sisters, Alberta “Burt” Galbreath, Margaret “Sam” Glisson, Sally Smith, and Bessie O’Conner.

Survivors include 1 son, Travis G. King and wife Cathy; 4 grandchildren, Danny King and wife Beth, Brandi Pittman and husband Anthony, all of Higgston, Angie Bolt and husband Ron of North Carolina, and Eric King and wife Donna of South Carolina; great-grandchildren, Hayley Kuntz and husband Clyde, Sean King, Cody King, Madison Kephart, and Lillyanna Pittman; great-greatgrandchildren, Conner and Colten Kuntz; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, including 2 special cousins, Randall McLeod and wife Monice and Helen Barfield.

A graveside funeral service was held on Thursday, March 25, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., in Ferguson Cemetery, with Pastor Owen Waters officiating.
