VHS Track Runs In Valdosta
The Lady Indians of Vidalia High School had a big day in Valdosta at the Harmon's Invitational Track meet. First Place was Lowndes High School with 154.5 points, 2nd place was Vidalia High School with 112 points, and 3rd place went to Valdosta High School with 74 points.
Girls
The Lady Indians were led by Junior Sarah Owen, who won all three of her open events, the 1,600m, the 3,200m, and the 800m runs. Myesha Hall won the long jump, placed 2nd in the triple jump, and placed 5th in the 200m dash. Kyleigh Johnson won the 100m hurdles and placed 3rd in the 300m hurdles.
Kaitlyn Allen also had a big day with a personal best every single time she touched the track. She place 2nd in the 800m, and 4th in the 1,600m. Johnson, Allen, Owen and Hall also teamed up for the 4x400m relay and placed 2nd to Lowndes.
Thrower Jasmine Smith continues to impress with her 3rd place finishes in the shot put and discus.
Boys
The boys placed 7th with 35.5 points to Lowndes 182, Brunswick 85, Thomas County Central 66, Appling 56, Valdosta 42, and Lee County 49.
Standout sprinter Michael Madison faced his toughest competition of the year but still managed to place 3rd in the 200m dash and 5th in the 100m dash. Luke Palmer had an excellent day placing 6th in the 3,200m. Kaylan Johnson continues to impress in the pit by placing 4th in the long jump and 3rd in the triple jump. VHS Coach Mandy Godbee said, “It is always critical for young athletes to face off with some tough competition before we head into the post season. This meet provided the competition they needed. I was very impressed to see how they responded and fought their way through every event. Not everyone was pleased with their results, but we now know that we can always improve and we can target the areas that need improving. Now we go to work again with our sights on the post season.”
The Vidalia High School Track team hits the road again, April 1, for a meet in West Laurens.
