Eagles Pick Up Wins Over Vikings
The Montgomery County High School Eagles and the Treutlen County High School Vikings baseball teams met up last week for a threegame Region series. The Eagles came away with two wins over their rivals on the week.
Game 1
Bo Davidson got the start on the mound for the Eagles in the first game of the series and had a good outing as he shut out the Vikings, allowing just 4 hits and striking out 9 batters.
The Eagles got on the board in the top of the third inning with one run to go ahead of the Vikings. MCHS picked up two more runs in the fifth inning as they extended their lead to 3-0. Montgomery held on to win the game by that score. Davidson also led the way at the plate with 3 hits and 1 RBI. Andrew Weeks and Maurice Polke each picked up an RBI in the game as well.
Game 2
In the second game of the series in Mt. Vernon on Thursday the Eagles rolled to a win over the Vikings. The Vikings plated a run in the top of the first inning, but the Eagles answered with five runs in the bottom half of the frame to take a 5-1 lead. Both teams added a run in the second, third and fourth innings as the Eagles maintained their lead, 8-4. MCHS picked up another run in the fifth inning and then scored six four more in the sixth inning to push their lead to 13-4. MCHS held in the top of the seventh inning to win the game, 13-4, over the Vikings. Wesley Hutchinson led the Eagles with 3 RBI's, and Tyler Peeples led the Vikings with 2 RBI's.
Game 3
In the final game of the series on Friday back in Mt. Vernon the Eagles fell behind early and couldn't find the runs they needed for the comeback. Treutlen jumped out with five runs in the top of the second inning, but the Eagles answered with three of their own in the bottom half of the frame. Treutlen scored one more in the top of the fourth inning to push their lead to 6-3.
The Eagles managed to score just one more run in the fifth inning as they fell to the Vikings 6-4.
Montgomery is now 10-11 on the year and they are 10-8 in Region play, while the Vikings are 12-9 overall and are 12-6 in the Region.
This is the final week of the regular season with the Eagles taking on Dublin in a three-game series. The first game was on Tuesday after presstime, and they will be back in action on Friday for a double header in Dublin with the first pitch scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
The Vikings will match up with Wilcox County. First game of the series was Tuesday after presstime, and they will play a double header in Soperton on Friday with the first game starting at 4:00 p.m.
