Mrs. Martha Fields
Mrs. Martha Jean ”Pete,” “Peepsie” Barwick Fields, age 93, of Vidalia, died on Thursday, April 8, 2021, at Community Hospice in Vidalia.
Mrs. Fields was born in the Lothair Community of Treutlen County, attended the Crossroads School and was a graduate of Soperton High School. She moved to Vidalia and worked in the Accounting Department of Piggly Wiggly Southern for over 30 years, retiring in the early 1990s. She was a longtime member of Vidalia First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathan Manning Barwick and Catherine Gertrude Odom Barwick; her husband of 60 years, Jack Wynn Fields; her siblings, Kermit Lamar Barwick, an infant brother, Edith Barwick Dickinson, Merle Barwick Reynolds, and Juanita Barwick Phillips; and 1 grandson, Michael Moses.
Survivors include her daughters, Kathy Moses (Martin), Uvalda, and Pollyann Martin (Richard), Vidalia; 2 grandchildren, Brett Thompson, Uvalda, and Savanna Martin Cummings (Michael), Rocky Mount, NC; 1 great-granddaughter, Katie Thompson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, April 10, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., in Vidalia First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jim Smith and Rev. David Blalock officiating. Interment followed in Fowler Cemetery in Lothair.
Pallbearers were Mike Reeves, Luke Moses, Chase Youngblood, Bobby Hamilton, Al Heath and
