CONTEXT
A compilation of quotations on a variety of issues by national, state and regional writers, well-known personalities, just plain everyday people and from various publications collected by the editors of THE ADVANCE.
Quotes for our Times:
Larry O'Connor, talk show host and political commentator: This is Biden's baseball boycott.
It's easy (and appropriate) to blame the players, MLB, the sponsors, Stacey Abrams, and on and on… but make no mistake. This is Joe Biden's baseball boycott. He signaled for it, he endorsed it and he owns it.
What are we to do?
You can start by choosing to attend a Minor League Baseball game… preferably a team not affiliated with an MLB franchise. Or, perhaps, a college baseball game. Even better, go rediscover the love of the game by patronizing your local Little League. And take the money you would have spent on tickets, parking, food, beer, and souvenirs and donate it all to the kids who still understand the game is about joy and love and competition and working together as a team.
Charles Turot, writer for American Thinker:
Things we can live without.
Major League Baseball has yanked its All-Star Game from Georgia because that state made a modest effort to prevent fraud in future elections. Joe Biden expressed support. Fraud is his friend. Atlanta-headquartered Delta Airlines and Coca-Cola also condemned the effort to prevent people whose politics looks like mine from disenfranchisement. Please note: that's half the country — maybe more. Do other airlines serve Pepsi with the little bag of peanuts? Can liberals alone fill baseball stadiums?
J. Robert Smith, writer and blogger for American Thinker: Strike out major league baseball.
Woke pro baseball, strike one. A cowardly MLB commissioner, strike two. Corporate sanctimony, strike three. Major League Baseball pulling the 2021 All-Star game and this year’s amateur draft from Atlanta is batter out, game over. …
It’s up to us to impose costs. We have the power of our dollars. Enough with merely bemoaning the Democrats’ war on liberty. Enough with shrugging our shoulders and saying, “But we’re just ‘little guys,’ what can we really do about any of this?” Enough with shaking our fists at TV screens and then turning around to buy MLB game tickets. Enough with drinking Coke. Enough with flying Delta.
Andrea Widburg, journalist for American Thinker: Biden adds stupidity to his lies about Georgia’s voting laws.
He spoke briefly to the press, one of whose members asked him if the Masters Tournament, golf’s most prestigious competition, should leave Georgia. Biden pressured the Masters to do so by again reciting his Big Lie: 'That's up to the Masters… It is reassuring to see for profit operations and businesses are speaking up about how these new Jim Crow laws are just antithetical to who we are.' …
So far, the people in charge of the tournament are holding firm. Let’s hope they continue to do so. Any other stance would destroy the tournament and allow the Democrats to get away with the Big Lie: that is, a lie they tell so often and with such fervor that credulous people begin to believe it’s true.
