Pinckard’s Slam Gives RTCA Win
It was a comeback of dramatic fashion for the Crusaders baseball team of Robert Toombs Christian Academy on Monday of this week as they hosted First Presbyterian Christian Academy.
FPCA did get a runner on in the top of the first inning, but the Crusaders got out of that early threat without allowing a run. They put two runners on in the top of the second inning, but this time the Highlanders managed to get a run across and take the lead, 1-0.
In the top of the third inning a single and two wild pitches put a runner at third for FPCA. Two walks after that and the bases were loaded. Another walk gave them a 2-0 lead, and then a hit batter made it 3-0. RTCA settled down and got out of the inning without allowing another run, but FPCA was now up 3-0.
The Highlanders picked up two more runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 5-0 lead on RTCA and looked as if they were in control of this game.
In the bottom of the fifth inning RTCA loaded the bases, and the FPCA pitching began to struggle as three walks brought in three runs to close the lead to 5-3. Then Dawson Pinckard came to bat and hit a grand slam home run to propel RTCA in to the lead, 7-5.
FPCA did get one more run across in the top of the sixth inning, but the RTCA defense and pitching clamped down and held on to get the dramatic win.
RTCA has one more game scheduled for this week as they will host Memorial Day on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
