Routine Traffic Stop Results in Drug Bust

A routine traffic stop near Glenwood led to the discovery of illegal drugs and the arrest of a Mount Vernon man on April 4.
While patrolling, Wheeler County Sheriff’s Deputy Ben Atkins observed a vehicle on Ochwalkee Road failing to maintain its lane of traffic.
Upon stopping the vehicle, the deputy requested a driver’s license from the vehicle’s operator Rickey Leamon Summersill. The officer reported that after he discovered Summersill was driving with a suspended license, Summersill was placed under arrest. The report said that as Summersill’s vehicle was being inventoried prior to being towed, the deputy discovered a folded-up dollar bill which contained a quantity of methamphetamine.
Summersill was transported to the Wheeler County jail where he was booked on three charges: felony possession of methamphetamine; failure to drive within a single lane; and driving while license suspended or revoked.
