Lady Indians Play At Region
The Vidalia High School girls tennis team defeated Toombs County High School in the first round of the Region Tournament last week. The Lady Indians won 4-1 with solid performances from 1st, 2nd, and 3rd singles as well as 2nd doubles.
At 1st singles, Alli Taufman won 6-2, 6-1. Karle McDonald won 6-0, 6-2, at #2 singles, and Bess Wilcox at 3rd singles won 6-0, 7-6 (TB, 7-5). At 2nd doub les, Emma Beck and Emma Vinson won shutting out their opponents 6-0, 6-0. The 1st doubles team, Madali Winn and Jesslyn Collins fought hard but lost in the 3rd set tie-breaker 7-10.
For the next round the girls faced Jeff Davis, the #1 seed in the Region. Beck and Vinson played extremely well winning at 2nd doubles. At 1st doubles, Collins and Winn, brought their match to a tie-breaker but the match was called after Jeff Davis had secured the victory by winning all three singles matches.
Next, Vidalia saw Bacon County in the last round playing for the 3rd position in the Region. Taufmann at 1st singles and McDonald at 2nd singles both came from behind to dominate Bacon’s number 1 and 2 players in the third set. At 1st doubles, Collins and Winn also came from behind to take their match to the 3rd set, but fell just two games short of a victory.
The loss put the Vidalia girls as the #4 seed in the State Playoffs. VHS played in their first round match at Bleckley County on Monday of this week after presstime.
