RTCA MS Wins State Title
The Robert Toombs Christian Academy Middle School baseball team played for the GISA AA State Championshiop last week and came away with the title. The Crusaders have lost only one game over the past two seasons, and that game was due to the eighth graders being held out of the game with the high school playing for the basketball State Championship.
Game 1
RTCA faced off with Gatewood in the first game of the playoffs and got the win. RTCA won the game 10-0 by the run rule.
RTCA scored three runs in the first inning to take the early lead and then added two more in the second inning for a 5-0 lead. In the third inning the Crusaders got RBI hits from Brittan Tabor, Cayden Nance and TJ Stanley as they plated five more runs to push their lead to 10-0.
RTCA held in the top of the fourth inning to get the win, 10-0, by the run rule. Tabor led the way with 3 RBI's in the game. Nance and Tabor combined on the mound for the win.
Game 2
The second game of the playoffs was against the Jaguars of Thomas Jefferson. RTCA scored two runs in the top of the first inning to take the early lead, and then added one in the second as they went ahead 3-0.
The Jaguars scored a run in the bottom of the second to close the lead to 3-1. But two more runs in the third by the Crusaders, including a home run by Stanley put RTCA on top 5-1. RTCA held off the Jaguars to get the win by that score and advance to the Championship Game.
Championship
It was a battle for the title between RTCA and Peidmont Academy's Cougars on Saturday. Gage Brantley got the win on the mound for RTCA as he struck out seven batters and allowed just one run.
Piedmont went up early with a run in the top of the first inning, but RTCA answered in the second with a run to tie the game at 1-1. RTCA then took the lead in the third inning with one more run to make it 2-1. The Crusaders held on to get the win by that score.

With that final win the RTCA MS Crusaders are the GISA State AA Champions.
Coach Billy Nance said, 'After last year’s undefeated season being cut short due to Covid; we had one goal in mind for this year, Win the State Championship!
'From the first day of practice to the last, these boys worked hard and grinded every day. 'This year was the true meaning of hard-workpays- off! We also had great leadership from our older boys who knew what it would take to win, combined with a couple sixth graders and one fifth grader that stepped up and contributed all season.
'This group of boys have a bright future at RTCA and I really feel this is only the beginning of more athletic championships to come. As good as these boys were this year at baseball, they were even better young men and teammates to one another, and for that I am the proudest!'
