Eagles Come From Behind
The Vidalia Heritage Academy Eagles pulled out a win on Monday of this week at home against Citizens Christian Academy. The Eagles had to come from behind to get the win.
Neither team scored in the first inning, but in the top of the second inning the Patriots of Citizens looked as if they were going to pull away. With two runners on base, a dribbler down the first base line brought in the first run of the game, and then a fielder's choice made it 2-0. A solid hit up the middle with two runners on put the Patriots up 4-0. VHA finally got the final out of the inning and went to the bottom of the frame trailing. The Eagles came out swinging and quickly erased that lead. Hardy Franklin got a hit, and then a walk by Ethan Sikes put two runners on base for the Eagles. Jackson Williamson hit a chopper to short, and the throw was wide, bringing in the first run of the game to close the lead to 4-1. Then as Williamson stole second, another run came in to score to make it 4-2.
Williamson stole third and a hit by Luke Moxley brought him in to close it to 4-3. The Eagles kept on hitting as they scored four more runs in the inning to take a 7-4 lead over the Patriots. Citizens added a run in the top of the fifth inning, and then three more in the sixth as they took the lead back, 8-7. But in the bottom of the sixth the Eagles plated four more runs as they pulled ahead 11-8, an then held in the top of the seventh inning to take the win. Mason Beacham and JT Cofield shared time on the mound for Heritage. Beacham also led the team with 4 RBI's in the game with Sikes adding 2. The Eagles will play in the first round of the playoffs this Friday at home as they host John Hancock with the first game of the series at 4:30 p.m. at the Ed Smith Complex.
