Wheeler Wins Over Devils
The Bulldogs of Wheeler County High School took two of three games from Hawkinsville in their final Region series of the regular season. They will not make the playoffs as they finished the year with a record of 8-16 and were 7-14 in Region play.
Game 1
The first game of the series took nine innings before it was decided. The Bulldogs pulled out the 7-6 win over the Red Devils to take the first game of the series. Wheeler picked up a run in the top of the first inning to take the early lead, and added two more in the third to lead 3-0.
The Devils picked up a run in the bottom of the third inning, but Wheeler answered with two more in the top of the fourth to lead 5-1. Hawkinsville scored one in the fifth and then three in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game at 5-5 and send it to extra innings. In the eighth inning each team added a run, but in the top of the ninth inning, the Bulldogs scored to lead 7-6 and then held in the bottom of the frame to take the win.
Game 2
On Friday Hawkinsville took the first game of the double header. The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth inning when the Devils picked up a run. They added another in the top of the fifth inning, but Wheeler plated one in the bottom of the frame to make the score 2-1.
Hawkinsville pulled away in the sixth inning with five more runs to push their lead to 7-1, and then went on to win the game by that score.
Game 3
It was a complete flip for the final game of the series as the Bulldogs ran away with the win. It was a big first inning that set the tone as Wheeler scored seven runs. They added five more in the third inning to go ahead 12-0.
Cooper Hartley got the win on the mound for Wheeler. Rhett Rodgers led the way with 3 RBI's.
