VHS Track At Sectionals
The Vidalia High School Indians track & field teams competed at the Sectional Meet at East Laurens last week and had another strong showing with numerous athletes qualifying for the GHSA State Meet, which will be held this Thursday through Saturday at McEachern High School in Powder Springs.
Girls
Sarah Owen again led the way for the Lady Indians as she qualified in three individual events. She took 1st place in the 800m run, was 2nd in the 3,200m, and was 4th in the 1,600m run. Jasmine Smith was 1st in the discus and finished 3rd in the shot put. Hayden Williamson was 1st in the high jump. Myesha Hall finished in 2nd place in both the long jump and the triple jump. Kyleigh Johnson was 2nd in the 300m hurdles and was 3rd in the 100m hurdles. Jakerra McRae was 5th in the 300m hurdles, Treyunna Roundtree was 6th in the long jump, and Kaitlyn Allen was 7th in the 1,600m run. The 4x100m relay team of Johnson, Roundtree, Moriah Wardlaw, and Samara Troupe finished in 7th place. The 4x400m team of Wardlaw, Johnson, Owen, and Hall finished in 2nd place. The 4x800m team of Allen, Janna Hyers, Tymber Harris, and Allie Whitaker took 8th place.
Boys
Michael Madison led VHS with a 2nd place finish in both the 100m dash and the 200m dash. Hunter Manning was 2nd in the pole vault. Camron Glasper took 3rd in the 300m hurdles. Joshua Mincey was 5th in the 400m dash. Kaylan Johnson was 5th in the triple jump.
Luke Palmer took 6th place in both the 1,600m run and the 3,200m run. Brandon Beasley finished in 6th place in the long jump. And Matthew Hill took 8th in both the long jump and the triple jump.
The relay teams had a good showing as the 4x100m team of Madison, Sinclair Williams, Jordan Powell, and Tyran Jacobs finished in 3rd place. The 4x400m team of Williams, Mincey, Marquell Middleton, and Beasley came in 4th place. The 4x800m team of Jace Gabbard, Andrew Hodges, Glasper, and Palmer finished in 3rd place.
