Mr. George William Raiford

Mr. George William Raiford, 68, died on Monday, July 19, 2021, at his home with family and loved ones by his side. Mr. Raiford was born in Vidalia. He was a graduate of Vidalia High School and played on the 1969 State Championship Football team. He continued his education at the University of Georgia, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in General Business. After graduating, he returned to Vidalia to work for a family business but he also enjoyed farming and loved breeding and showing Paint Horses. He was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, Sherry Raiford; 1 brother, Joseph Raiford; and his father, Phil Raiford.

Survivors include 2 sons, Johnny Raiford and his wife Laura of Greenville, SC, Jacob Raiford of Vidalia; 1 daughter, Mattie Raiford, Rochester, NY, who oversaw his care in his final days; his mother, Augustina Raiford of Vidalia; 2 brothers, Steve Raiford of Vidalia and Frank Raiford and his wife Melanie of Athens; 1 granddaughter, Anica Raiford; and 1 grandson, Grayson Raiford.

A graveside funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at 10:00 a.m., in Pinecrest Cemetery, with Bob Dixon officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Hope Lodge sponsored by the American Cancer Society.
