GBI Investigating Discovery of Body in Woods Near Alamo
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is probing the discovery of a body in Wheeler County last week. The remains were found in woods along Old Glenwood Road a little less than a mile outside of Alamo on Monday, August 9.
The Wheeler County Sheriff's Office asked the Georgia Bureau of investigation to assist in the investigation at approximately 7:45 p.m. on August 9. The remains were sent to the GBI's Crime Lab for examination.
The investigation is active and ongoing with investigators following leads. Further information on the cause of death and the identity of the victim are pending the completion of the autopsy.

partment and Wheeler County Sheriff's Office were searching for a 33-year-old Alamo man who was last seen leaving his mother’s home in Alamo on July18. He was reported to have mental health issues and had not taken his medication. Authorities have not confirmed that the body that was found August 9 was that of the missing man and the search for the missing man has not been suspended.
