TCHS Falls To Dodge
The Toombs County High School football team opened up their season last Friday night in Eastman as they took on the Indians of Dodge County. Dodge came into the game ranked as they #9 team in the state in AA, and it showed as they rolled over the Bulldogs, 39- 0.
The game made it just a few minutes in before it was halted due to lightning. It was around an hour before play resumed. Late in the first quarter, the Indians had moved the ball down inside the Toombs 30-yard line, but the defense stepped up and took the ball over on downs at their own 24- yard line. Toombs wasn’t able to get anything going and had to punt the ball away. Dodge began to move the ball as the first quarter was coming to an end. Then, less than a minute into the second Dodge put the first points on the board on a long pass play. They added a two-point conversion to take an 8-0 lead over Toombs with 11:09 left in the first half.
Dodge added to their lead on a diving catch in the end zone with just over four minutes on the clock. They tacked on the PAT for a 15-0 lead over the Bulldogs.
Dodge added a safety and then another touchdown as the first half was coming to a close to take a 25-0 lead into halftime.
Dodge pushed that lead to 32-0 in the third quarter, and picked up a touchdown on a 74-yard run in the fourth quarter to lead the game 39-0.
Dodge held on to take the win by that score over Toombs, 39- 0. This week Toombs will host the Warriors of Tattnall County on Friday night in The Pit at 7:30 p.m. This will be the first game in The Pit since the installation of a new lighting system that is sure to wow the crowd.
