RTCA Gets First Win

The Crusaders football team of Robert Toombs Christian Academy picked up their first win of the season as they hosted the Trojans of Fullington Academy last Friday night. It was a battle, but RTCA held on to get the big win.

RTCA had the ball to start the game and got a big run from Hunter Ennis for 35 yards that moved them deep into Fullington's territory. But they stalled there and Fullington took over.

Fullington had the ball down to the 20-yard line of RTCA with just over four minutes to go in the first quarter. They went to the one-yard line and scored on the next play with 1:45 left in the first. They added the extra point to lead 7-0 over RTCA.

RTCA began their next drive at their 35-yard line. A big run from Ennis moved the ball across midfield to the 43 as the first quarter came to an end. On the first play of the second quarterback TJ Stanley hit Jashaun Powell to the 20yard line. Powell then carried the ball to the eight. Stanley went in from there for a touchdown with 9:47 left in the first half. They added the extra point from Justin Bowers to tie the game at 7-7.

Fullington moved the ball well on their next series as they went all the way continued from page

to the RTCA 5-yard line. The game then went into a lightning delay. After that delay Fullington went in for the touchdown but missed the extra point to give them a 13-7 lead.

With 1:35 left in the first half, RTCA got a touchdown from Powell from five yards out that tied the game at 13-13. Bowers tacked on the PAT as RTCA took the lead, 1413 over the Trojans. RTCA held on and took that lead into halftime.

In the third quarter the RTCA defense stopped Fullington and took the ball over on downs. Powell then broke free for 66 yards and a touchdown. Bowers added the extra point for a 21-13 lead for the Crusaders.

Fullington added a touchdown in the fourth quarter of the game, closing the lead to 21-19. They went for the two-point conversion to tie the game, but the RTCA defense kept them out to preserve the 21-19 lead with just over six minutes left in the game.

The Crusaders did a good job of keeping the Trojans out of the end zone of the remainders of the game to take their first win of the season, 21-19. RTCA did have one other opportunity to score as they had the ball fourth-and-goal at the Fullington 2-yard line, but they were stopped and turned it over on downs.

RTCA is now 1-6 on the season. This week the Crusaders will travel to Brentwood Academy in Sandersville with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
