MCHS Defeats Telfair For Homecoming

It was Homecoming for the Montgomery County High School Eagles last Friday night as they hosted Telfair County’s Trojans. The Eagles took the win to improve to 6-1 on the year. MCHS quarterback Bo Davidson had a career night as he went 17-17 passing for 336 yards and two touchdowns.

Before the game, MCHS crowned their 2021 Homecoming King and Queen. The Homecoming King was Samari Madison, and the Homecoming Queen was Makayla Bell.

MCHS had the ball to start the game and took over at their 43-yard line. Good runs by Brandon Denmark and Madison moved the ball across midfield to the Telfair 31-yard line. On the next play Denmark broke free around the left side and went in for the touchdown with 10:49 still left in the first quarter. The extra point by Jackson Cartwright was good for a 7-0 lead.

On Telfair’s next possession Denmark forced a fumble, and it was recovcontinued from page

ered by MCHS at the Trojan’s 41 yard line. MCHS quickly moved the ball to 20, but the Eagles turned the ball over on a fumble at the 18yard line.

Telfair moved the ball across midfield, but a bad snap and a good defensive stop by MCHS forced a punt. MCHS took over at their 43-yard line with five minutes to go in the first.

Xavier Brantley had a big run to the Telfair 23yard line, and then a pass from Davidson to Brantley pushed the ball to the 7-yard line. Denmark went in from there with 3:23 left in the qaurter. They added the extra point on a run by NiShawn Wise for a 15-0 lead for MCHS. In the second quarter a 63-yard pass to Brantley, with Brantley doing most of the work after the catch, set up the Eagles at the 12-yard line. They went in shortly after to increase their lead to 227, with Telfair having picked up a touchdown earlier in the quarter. On the Eagles’ next drive 30-yard passes to both Denmark and to Brantley set up another touchdown as the Eagles went ahead 29-7 heading to halftime.

In the third quarter the Trojans found the end zone again to close the lead to 29-14. MCHS added a touchdown to take a 35+14 lead, and then scored one final time on a 45-yard swing pass to Denmark. That gave MCHS a 42-14 lead.

Telfair added a late touchdown to make the final score 42-20.

This week MCHS will be hosting Baconton Charter who are just 1-7 on the season. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. at Brogdon Field.
