Wheeler Over Johnson In Overtime

The Bulldogs of Wheeler County High School came back to force overtime before getting the win over the Trojans of Johnson County in Wrightsville last Friday night. Nobody could get anything going in the first quarter of the game. In the second quarter the Bulldogs took the lead on a rushing touchdown with four minutes left in the half. Wheeler went for the two-point conversion but did not get it as they led 6-0 over Johnson.

Johnson scored with under a minute to go in the half on a rushing touchdown to tie the game at 6-6. They tacked on the PAT as they took a 7-6 lead over Wheeler into the locker room at halftime. Johnson extended that lead to 13-6 in the third quarter with another rushing touchdown, this one with six minutes to go in the quarter. They missed the extra point to lead 13-6. Johnson added one more score in the game, but Wheeler made a comeback and put two more touchdowns on the board in the fourth to tie the game at 20-20 and force overtime. In overtime Wheeler held Johnson and then scored a touchdown to get the win over Johnson by the score of 26-20.

Wheeler quarterback Jacquez Kincy had another good game and sees himself as one of the top passing quarterbacks in all of Single A with 1,240 yards, just 20 yards behind the Single A leader Zane Touchton of Pelham. With that Brandon Smallwood is the Single A receiving leader so far for the season with 709 yards, and that also places him as #6 overall across all classifications in the state of Georgia. Wheeler defensive end Tee Jay Wilcox had 15 tackles in the game. The Bulldogs are now 5-3 on the year. This week Wheeler will host Telfair County on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Telfair comes into the game 2-5 on the year.
