Toombs County Falls To The Swainsboro Tigers
It was a tough night in Swainsboro for the Toombs County High School Bulldogs football team last Friday night as they took on the #10 ranked Tigers. In the first quarter of the game the Bulldogs fell behind as Swainsboro found the end zone once to take a 7-0 lead. They added to that lead in the second quarter with two more touchdowns, missing the extra point on one, but Swainsboro took a 20-0 lead into halftime.
On Swainsboro's first possession of the second half they broke a big play for a touchdown to push their lead to 26-0 with 8:49 left in the third quarter.
On Toombs' next series Gavin Hall hit Lagonza Hayward for a 60-yard touchdown pass. Jesus Mata tacked on the extra point to close the lead to 26-7.
Swainsboro added one more touchdown in the third quarter of the game as they went ahead 33-7 on the Bulldogs.
Toombs was not able to score again, but they also kept the Tigers from putting any more points on the board. Toombs fell 33-7 as their record falls to 4-5 on the year and they are 2-2 in Region play. Toombs is currently sitting in third place in the Region.
This week TCHS will host the Falcons of East Laurens on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in The Pit. The Falcons are 5-4 overall but are just 1-3 in the Region.
For the game TCHS will also be hosting their Annual Veterans Day Tribute. The Toombs County performing arts students will be presenting a musical performance in honor of those who have served. There will be over 200 students performing during the program. Artwork from local elementary students will be displayed as well. The performance will take place at halftime of the game. All Veterans are encouraged to come and will be admitted to the game free of charge.
