Eagles Finish #3 In Region
The Montgomery County High School Eagles football team gave the Irish of Dublin a good fight last Friday night on the road, but a big fourth quarter for the Irish was the difference in the game.
MCHS took the lead in the first quarter of the game on a big 73-yard touchdown run by the speedy Brandon Denmark. Denmark cut through a hole on the left side of the line and outran everyone to the end zone for the touchdown. Jackson Cartwright added the extra point to put the Eagles on top 7-0.
The Irish answered later in the first quarter with a 35-yard touchdown run. They added the extra point to tie the game at 7-7.
In the second quarter Dublin took the lead as they capped off a drive with a 9-yard touchdown pass play. They added the PAT for a 14-7 lead over the Eagles. MCHS couldn't get much going over the remainder of the first half, and that was how the game went to halftime.
In the third quarter of the game the Eagles moved the ball down the field with the passing game. Bo Davidson completed passes to Xavier Brantley, Samari Madison, and a big 26-yarder to Ahmad Carter. MCHS capped off the drive with a 1-yard quarterback keeper by Davidson for the touchdown. Cartwright added the extra point to tie the game at 14-14.
In the fourth quarter of the game Dublin intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown. That put them on top 21-14 over the Eagles.
MCHS bounced back with a 7-yard touchdown pass from Davidson to Brantley. With the extra point that tied the game at 21-21.
But the Irish added a touchdown on a 41-yard run to take a 28-21 lead, and then scored on a 4-yard run late in the game as they came out on top over the Eagles, 34-21.
With the loss to Dublin, the Eagles moved into the #3 spot coming out of Region 4A heading into the State Playoffs. MCHS finished the season with a record of 8-2, their best record in over a decade. They were also 7-2 in the Region, but the loss to Dublin put them at #3 behind Wilcox County and Dublin.
That will match them up against Brooks County on Saturday of this week at 7:00 p.m. on the road in Quitman.
