Mr. Steve Smith
Mr. Steve Richard Smith, age 71, of Soperton, died on Monday, November 22, 2021, at the home of his daughter in Dublin.
Mr. Smith was a lifelong resident of Treutlen County. He was a graduate of Treutlen High School. He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Psychology from Brewton-Parker College. He farmed for years and had a construction company with Dale Ricks. He operated heavy equipment, clearing land, building ponds. He later taught at Brewton-Parker and joined the staff of Pineland Mental Health in Vidalia, where he became the Director before retiring. He had attended Rosemont Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Vinon “O.V.” Smith and Alma Barnhill Smith; his wife, Mildred O’Brien Smith; 1 son, Jody Richard Smith; and 2 brothers, Vinon and Gerald Smith.
Survivors include 1 daughter, Amy Lanthrip and her husband, Billy, Dublin; 1 special son, Frank Jackson and his wife, Misty, Soperton; 2 sisters, Virginia Lawson, Soperton, and Sheila Bryant, Monticello; 1 brother, Keith Smith, Soperton; his grandchildren, Ciera Rogers, Jazzlyn Smith, Jody Richard Smith, Jr., Toby Hardy and Bill Lanthrip III; his great-grandchildren, Jagger Braswell, Jhett Rogers and River Rogers; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service was conducted on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at 2:00 p.m., in Barnhill– Davis Cemetery, with his son-in-law, Billy Lanthrip, officiating.
Sammons Funeral Home in Soperton was in charge of arrangements.
