Brewton-Parker Hosts First Track Meet
The Brewton-Parker College men’s Track & Field program hosted the Barons Indoor/Outdoor Invitational on Saturday in Mt. Vernon.
Men
Brewton-Parker hosted its first home meet in program history at the Montgomery County High School Track & Field Complex across from BPC’s campus with Edward Waters (Fla.) and Thomas (Ga.) competing as well. The Barons gathered 57 team points, earning first place amongst the three-team field. Edward Waters notched 36 points with Thomas gathering 33.
The track events began with the 5,000-meter run. Hunter Milhollin led with a third-place finish, recording a time of 18:46.80 followed by Frankie Williams gathering a fifth-place finish with a time of 19:19. Bradley Taylor and Calab Williams competed in the 60-meter hurdles as they finished in third and fourth, respectively. Taylor recorded a final time of 8.84 followed by Williams’ As for the field events, the Triple Jump was all BPC with La’eeq Mahdi leading with a 13.52-meter mark. Vickers recorded a distance of 12.20 meters with Brantley gathering a mark of 12.17 meters followed by Derrick Reid recording a mark of 12.10 meters.
For the long jump, Mahdi gathered first with a 6.56-meter mark. Brantley and Terrell picked up third and fourth-place finishes, respectively. Brantley recorded a mark of 6.05 meters with Terrell recording 6.03 meters. Jace Upshur closed out with a sixth-place finish, marking 5.86 meters.
Nathaniel Shields and Harris competed in the pole vault with Shields recording a height of 3.35 meters for first. Harris gathered second with a mark of 2.59 meters. For the shot put, Malik Brown gathered first with a distance of 12.44 meters. As for the weight throw, Brown gathered first with a mark of 12.68 meters. Rounding out the field events, Ryder Sasser picked up second for a mark of 1.70 meters.
Women
The Lady Barons posted 47 team points, earning first place amongst the three-team field. Edward Waters notched 40 points with Thomas gathering 38.
The track events began with the 5,000-meter run. Rachel Jarriel finished the race with a time of 22:05.05 for third out of three runners to begin the day. The mile run followed with Karen Garcia, Macy Todd, and Yecenia Solorzano competing. Garcia led the BPC runners with a time of 6:19.73 for third place. Todd followed with a mark of 6:21.10 while Solorzano rounded out the five-runner field with a time of 6:45.17. Courtney Allen secured a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.76. Zaria Johnson gathered third with a mark of 1:06.87 followed by Madysen Kelley and Jaleah Rhett in sixth and seventh, respectively. Kelley recorded a time of 1:10.15 with Rhett finishing in 1:15.70. In the 800-meter run, Todd, Garcia, and Solorzano finished in second, third, and fourth, respectively. Todd gathered a time of 2:51.37, followed by Garcia’s time of 2:53.88 and Solorzano’s mark of 3:03.02. For the 200-meter dash, Dasia Shepherd led the way with a secondplace finish by crossing the finish line with a time of 27.60. Johnson finished in third with a mark of 29.06 followed by Kelley in fifth with a time of 30.39. Rhett rounded out the Lady Barons in sixth with a mark of 31.29.
The track events concluded with the 4x400meter relay with Brewton- Parker taking first place as Keonna Hamler, Johnson, Kelley, Rhett, and Allen recorded a time of 4:27.54. As for the field events, Daja Freeman picked up a second-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 10.66 meters. Alicia Tripp followed with a distance of 10.45 meters for third while Jasmine Smith recorded a mark of 10.34 meters for fourth. Camille Mendez recorded a mark of 8.38 meters to round out the event for BPC. Mendez picked up a first-place finish in the weight throw as she recorded a mark of 11.43 meters. Freeman followed in third with a 10.52-meter mark. Tripp and Smith finished in fifth and sixth, respectively. Tripp recorded a distance of 10.28 meters while Smith recorded 9.57 meters. In the triple jump, Shepard took first with a mark of 10.80 meters followed by A’Shanti Surrey in third with a jump of 10.35 meters. As for the long jump, Surrey recorded a mark of 4.62 meters for fourth place. Allen also competed as the lone athlete in the pole vault event, recording a height of 2.74 meters to close out the field events. Brewton-Parker returns to action on Jan. 22 at the Embry-Riddle Challenge.
time of 9.13. In the 60-meter dash, Colt Brantley led BPC with a fourth-place finish with a time of 7.23 followed by Firdan Keflinzein in fifth with a mark of 7.31. Calab Williams also competed in the dash after the hurdles, recording a sixth-place 7.46 performance. John Stokes recorded a time of 7.52 for 10th while Rhett Harris and Jordon Solomon finished in 12th and 13th, respectively. Harris marked a time of 7.97 followed by Solomon running an 8.34 time.
As for the mile run, David Williams picked up a first-place finish with a 4:52.74 finish. Simon Steele finished in third with a time of 5:03.8 followed by Aaron Pinckard in fourth with a time of 5:09.94. Milhollin and Frankie Williams finished in sixth and seventh, respectively. Milhollin finished with a 5:44.88 time with Williams finishing at 5:57.69.
Jaylen Mable gathered a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a mark of 49.78; just shy of a NAIA “B” Standard. Warren Hollis finished in third with a time of 51.47 followed by Deandrea Jolly in fourth, finishing with a time of 51.49. Joseph Williams recorded a time of 53.33 for ninth while Taylor and Adrian Vickers finished in 11th and 12th, respectively. Taylor marked a time of 54.24 followed by Vickers with a time of 55.21. Four more Barons raced with Kevon McKelvin finishing 15th (56.40), X’Zavian Williams in 16th (56.52), Eric Smith in 18th (56.96), and Alesander Miller in 19th ( 59.42).
In the 800-meter run, Steele, David Williams, and Pinckard all competed. Steele led with a time of 2:08.53 for second followed by Williams in third with a time of 2:13.65. Pinckard rounded out in fourth with a mark of 2:15.05.
For the 200-meter dash, Keflinzein finished in sixth (23.93), Joseph Williams in seventh (24.33), McKelvin in 11th (24.76), Stokes in 12th (24.90), Bobby Terrell in 13th (25.01), X’Zavian Williams in 15th (25.46) and Miller in 16th (26.11).
The track events concluded with the 4x400meter relay with Brewton- Parker taking first place with a time of 3: 26.23.
