Potentially Lethal Situation Ends Peacefully
A potentially lethal situation ended peacefully early December 9, after Vidalia police responded to a domestic incident in which a man was allegedly holding a gun to his own head. Sergeant Investigator John Humphrey with the Vidalia Police Department said officers arrived on the scene around 1 a.m. Thursday and established a perimeter around the residence in which the subject was located. They made contact with the man via cell phone and maintained communications until a crisis negotiator arrived on the scene.
After about three hours, the man was persuaded to surrender to authorities without incident. The man, who had complained of chest continued from page
pains, was transported to Memorial Health Meadows Hospital for further medical evaluation.
Because of the sensitivity of the case, no names or further information will be released.
Humphrey said officers with the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office and the Toombs-Montgomery EMS were on scene to provide support.
