Mrs. Atha Batay, age 94, of Vidalia, died on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after a brief illness. Mrs. Batay was a native of Montgomery County, lived in Toombs County most of her life, and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Pheley Batay, Sr.; 3 sons, Cecil Batay, Benny Batay, and an infant son, Leonard Batay; 3 grandsons, Shannon Batay, Jason Douglas Sizemore, and an infant grandson, Jason Douglas Sizemore; her parents, Lawson Whitaker and Mattie Lou Hayes Whitaker; 4 sisters; and 4 brothers. Her family includes 3 sons, Frank Batay and Donna, David Batay, and Billy Batay, all of Vidalia; 2 daughters, Janice Sizemore and husband Jay of Fort Pierce, FL, and Deborah Carpenter and Jimmy of Vidalia; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 great- great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at 3:00 p.m., in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral, with Rev. Randy McDuffie officiating. Burial followed in Ruth’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jesse Batay, Jamie Carpenter, Billy Batay, Coleman Giles, Jimmy Carpenter, and Jay Sizemore. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 2277, Vidalia, GA 30475.
