and at the half VHS was on top 26-19.
In the third it was 33-23 after a dunk from Dalley and, it was 35-27 after a three-pointer from Whited. By the end of the third period the score was 37-31 as Jeff Davis had closed back in. With 4:02 left in the game the score was 39-34 and JD made it 39- 37.
Jacobi Washington got one for the Indians for a 43-37 lead, and Konner Owens added free throws to seal the win, 48- 42.
VHS was led by Dalley with 21 points and Jordan Powell added 9.
Girls vs. Swainsboro
In this big Region game the #5 ranked Lady Tigers of Swainsboro took an early 5-2 lead. Walker and Warner helped close the Tiger lead to 9-6. VHS came back and tied the game at 12-12, and that was the score at the end of the first period. In the second Jeff Davis went back in front and led 19-14, but baskets by Kyleigh Johnson and Walker closed that lead back to 19-18. The game was tied at 20-20 with just over three minutes in the half, but Swainsboro took a 25-20 lead with one minute to go. At the end of the first half the score was 25-22.
With 2:44 left in the third the score was 31-26 with the Lady Tigers on top. Baskets by Moriah Wardlaw and Walker helped close that lead back to 33-30 with just one minute to go in the third. With 25 seconds on the clock Tymber Harris made it 33-32. And that was the score at the end of the third quarter. Swainsboro went on a run to start the fourth and took a 39-32 lead, but baskets by Walker and Wardlaw tied the game at 39-39. Harris put VHS on top with 2:40 left to play at 41-39. Franklin made two huge free throws for the Lady Indians for a 43-40 lead with just 10 seconds to play. Swainsboro got a free throw to make it 43-41, but Walker sealed the win with two free throws with just 3 seconds to play.
VHS took the win over the Lady Tigers 45-41. Walker had a huge game for VHS as she led the Lady Indians with 23 points.
VHS Coach Sissy Anderson said, “These girls have been working so hard, and we needed something like this to get ready for the Region Tournament. It was really a group effort, but those big free throws at the end were great to see. I hope this changes things for us and we feed off of this going forward.”
Boys vs. Swainsboro
VHS jumped out to an early lead with threepointers by Dalley and Owens, but Swainsboro came back to tie the game at 6-6 and then they took an 8-6 lead. VHS was down 13-10, but a three by Dalley tied it at 13-13.
Swainsboro went back ahead 18-13 on the Indians. Whited got a three to close it to 21-19, and then Jordan Powell tied the game at 21-21 with just over two minutes left in the first half. Heading to the half the score was tied at 24-24.
In the third Owens and Dalley gave VHS a 30-28 lead, and then they pushed it to 35-30 with 4:53 left in the third. Dalley hit a runner in the lane, and Jacari Washington hit a three as the Indians took a 43-40 lead to the fourth quarter. Whited hit a three, and Washington pushed the lead to 48-42. Swansboro came back and tied the game at 48-48 with 3:40 to play. Another basket by Washington gave the Indians the lead back, and then Owens and Jacobi Washington connected for a 52-48 lead. Jacari Washington added a three pointer to lead 55-48 with two minutes left.
It was 58-51 with just one minute left, and the Indians held on to win as Powell capped off the win with a last second dunk. VHS won by the score of 62-53 for their 21st win in a row. Dalley led the Indians with 20 points, Powell added 13, Jacari Washington scored 12, and Whited posted 11 in the win. Coach Tommy Dalley said, “That was a lot of fun right there. I thought our kids just played so well when they had to. They wanted to sweep the Region and they did that. The guys off the bench tonight really kept making plays for us. What a great high school basketball game that was.”
Girls vs. JD
The Lady Indians played at home against Jeff Davis on Saturday to close out their regular season in a makeup game. The girls came out and jumped out to a big 9-0 lead on the Yellow Jackets. Walker made it 11-0 before JD could get on the board with a free throw. VHS was on top 17-3 by the end of the first. And by the end of the first half VHS was up 25– 13. The score was 36-18 by the end of the third with the Lady Indians in complete control of this game. VHS took the win over Jeff Davis 48-30. Vidalia was led by Walker with 12 points. The Lady Indians ended the season with a record of 14-10 and they were 9-3 in the Region. The VHS boys overall are now 23-1 and they were undefeated in the Region at 12-0. The Indians will have this week off as they prepare for the Region Tournament which will take place next week.
