Though found innocent of murder in the May 2018 shooting death of Jerry Clark, Jr., which occurred at the Raym onia Apartments complex in Vid alia, Malique R h e em Har- rington Jr. was convicted of aggravated assault, tampering with evidence, and a firearms charge. These charges total a 25-year sentence, which was administered by Judge Robert Reeves on February 3.

Harrington previously appeared in court in December, when he was declared not guilty of felony murder; yet, the three other charges remain. Judge Reeves told the court that this case had “weighed heavy on his heart,” and took much deliberation on what he felt the appropriate decision was.

Harrington, who was 19 years old at the time of the incident, fled the area following the shooting before turning himself in to the Acworth Police Department a week later. The department transported him back to Toombs County, where he was initially given limited immunity. That immunity did not stand, as a Superior Court Judge did not finalize it. Later, Judge Reeves reviewed the case and made the decision to bring it to trial.

While awaiting his trial and sentencing, Harrison continued to participate in criminal acts, as his record notes two infractions during his time at the Toombs County Detention Center, which caused him to be cited for rioting in a penal institution and unauthorized possession of a weapon, which an inmate said was a shank.
