Smallwood Headed To Savannah

Brandon Smallwood of Wheeler County High School signed his letter of intent on Friday, February 4, to play football for the Tigers of Savannah State University. Smallwood was the leader for all of Single A in receiving yards during his senior season for the Bulldogs of Wheeler. He will take those abilities to Savannah and get to play Division 1 football. Smallwood said, “It feels really good to see all of the support for us signing to play at the next level. I really like the campus at Savannah, and with it being an HBCU it just had a great feel to me all around. The coach was great, really made me feel like I belonged and that I was going to be able to make an impact on the team. I feel like we can continue to change the program there and be a part of something big. I have to thank my parents, my godparents, my coaches, and just everyone that has been a part of this.”

Levon Smallwood, his father, added, “This is definitely a proud day for us. It is something that he has worked hard for, he knew he wanted to come back to Wheeler County and play for this school and get to the next level. We so appreciate his godparents for helping us get him back here and taking him in like he was one of their own.”

Head Coach Thomas Smith stated, “He is just a great competitor. He expects to win every game. He played both sides for us every game, and he was the only player that we had that did that. He had some GPA issues as a freshman, but he has worked his tail off and got himself eligible for this opportunity. He has worked hard not just in the classroom, but in the weight room gaining strength as well. He is just going to make a team better with his attitude.”
