Mr. David Hochstetler, USAR, age ….

Mr. David Hochstetler, USAR, age 75, of Mt. Vernon, died on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, near his home from injuries received in a motorcycle accident.

Mr. Hochstetler was born in Iowa City, IA, grew up Millersburg, OH, and moved to Sarasota, FL, and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He retired after 20 years as First Sergeant, and served 1 tour of duty in Vietnam in Special Forces, Green Beret. He was stationed in Korea, Okinawa, and Germany, moving to Montgomery County in 2003, and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. After his military career, he worked in civil service for 10 years, and later was owner/operator of DJH Trucking. Preceding him in death are his parents, David and Anna Hochstetler; and 4 siblings, Omar Hochstetler, Dwight Hochstetler, Robert Hochstetler and William D. Hochstetler. His family includes his wife of 54 years, Ruth Dixon Hochstetler, USAR, of Mt. Vernon; 4 daughters, Tammy Shank Mura and husband John of Atlanta, Anna Vanessa Hochstetler Eddins and husband Sonny of Sherrills Ford, NC, Teresa Lynn Hochstetler Nichols of Lincolnton, NC, and Ashley Hochstetler Adams of Mt. Vernon; 7 siblings, Catherine Troyer and husband Eli, Susanna Miller and husband Albert, Joseph Hochstetler and wife Ruby, Jacob Hochstetler and wife Cynthia, John Hochstetler and wife Vangie, Sarah Strader, and Rachel Troyer and husband Loren; 5 grandchildren, Heather Petty, Tyler Bingle, Autumn Hodges, Anna Adams, and Aaron Adams; 3 great-grandchildren, Ayden, Wyatt, and Ren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held on Monday, February 28, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home, with Military Honors by the Ft. Stewart Honor Guard. Pastor B.L. Horne and Pastor James Love officiated. Burial followed in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville.
