Man Killed As He Tries To Cross Road

A Lyons man died at the scene after being struck by two vehicles as he attempted to cross Georgia Highway 292 at night. The incident occurred in Lyons on February 27. Lyons Chief of Police Wesley Walker said Hilarion Cruz Gutierrez, 62, of 249 E. Oglethorpe St., Lot 4, was trying to cross at the intersection of S. Monroe Street and Highway 292 when he was hit by two vehicles traveling east. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No charges are expected to be filed.

Local officials reached out to Mexican authorities to locate the Cruz Gutierrez family in Mexico to inform them of the death.
