BPC At NAIA National Invitational

Brewton-Parker women’s wrestling opened day one at the 2022 NAIA Women’s Wrestling National Invitational in Jamestown, N.D. on Friday.

The Lady Barons are currently 12th amongst a field of 34 teams with 51.5 team points. India Page leads BPC into day two action with an opportunity to wrestle herself to a third-place finish. She has already secured at least All-American Honorable Mention status as one of eight finalists in her weight class, but she is set to grapple in the consolation fourth round with hopes to advance to All-American status.

Page went 3-1 at 155 lbs for the opening day of action. She earned two pins and a tech fall win while dropping a tech fall loss.

At 101 lbs, Gabriela Galvez returned from injury to compete on Friday and notched a 1-2 record. Her lone win was a 10-0 tech fall. For 109 lbs, Alyssa Valdivia went 2-2 on the day scoring a pin to start and a 10-2 victory in the second round.

Both Alesandra Burgos and Geneva Winston competed in the 123 lbs division. Burgos went 2-2 with a pair of pins while Winston finished with a 3-2 record scoring two pins and a tech fall victory.

At 130 lbs , both Leidaly Rivera and Jorie Richardson finished with 2-2 records. Rivera earned a pin and a tech fall while Richardson recorded the same. Kamryn Ellis competed at 136 lbs , highlighted her day with a pin and a 9-6 win while finishing up with a 2-2 record. Mel Mercado competed at 143 lbs and finished with a 2-2 record after recording a pair of pins.

Brewton-Parker’s time at the NAIA National Invitational will conclude with Page’s journey at 155 lbs.
