Fire Destroys Local Funeral Home
Vincent R. Drummer Funeral Home was destroyed by fire at 4 a.m. on Sunday. Investigations are ongoing to officially determine the cause and origin of the blaze. According to funeral home owner Vincent R. Drummer, the fire was caused by an electrical issue in the embalming room of the mortuary. “Luckily, we did not have any planned services or activities occurring in the funeral home,” Drummer said.
Drummer plans to immediately relocate the funeral home to a building that was formerly occupied by Stewart-Rosier Funeral Home at 211 W. Liberty Avenue in Lyons. “We want to make sure that we are still able to serve the public, even at this tragic time,” he concluded.
The fire continues to be under investigation by the Vidalia Fire Department, which responded to the fire scene to find the building fully engulfed by flames. No final report has been made.
