Lady Vikings Win Region
The Treutlen County High School Lady Vikings soccer team won the Region Championship last week as they pulled off four road wins to secure the top spot. They finished the off the season with a record of 11-6 overall and were 10-2 in Region play. The Lady Vikings entered the week at number two in the Region 4A Public standings after consecutive home losses to Johnson County and Dublin. The Lady Vikings needed to win four consecutive road games in as many days to secure their first Region Championship since 2019.
On Monday, the Lady Vikings traveled to Hawkinsville and earned a 2-1 victory on goals by Montana Wright and Gracie Hardy.
The Lady Vikings traveled to Alamo on Tuesday to battle Wheeler County. Goalkeeper Elena Wilcher earned a 2-0 shutout victory with goals by Hardy and Morgan Bowen.
Wednesday, the Lady Vikings were in Vienna to face Dooly County. The match was scoreless after regulation and two overtimes. Treutlen prevailed 3-1 on penalty kicks by Gracie Bassett, Lanie Hutcheson, and Brianna Woods.
Treutlen traveled to Mount Vernon on Thursday with a chance to earn the Region Title with a win against Montgomery County’s Lady Eagles. The game remained scoreless until Montana Wright buried a goal inside the left post in the 56th minute to give the Lady Vikings a 1-0 lead.
The Treutlen defense withstood scoring opportunities by the Lady Eagles and helped Wilcher earn her sixth shutout of the season, as the Lady Vikings won 1-0 to earn the Region Championship.
Treutlen will host the first round of the GHSA State Tournament on Tuesday, April 12.
