Obituaries
Mrs. Margie Higgs Patrick passed away on Tuesday afternoon, March 29, 2022, at her home, surrounded by her family after a long illness. She was the sixth of eleven children born to Festus and Ofa Rollison Higgs. She was born in Lyons and raised in the Ohoopee Community. Her adult life took her to Alabama, Montana, Michigan, Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee. She attended elementary school in Ohoopee and high school completing the 11th grade in Lyons. She was a talented seamstress and was sought after by all the local manufacturing companies to work in their Sample and Design departments. She also worked in a shoe factory and in Detroit at the Plymouth Motor Company. She always made her clothes and the clothes of her children. She would design and make patterns out of paper grocery bags. As a single mother for a period of time, she worked three jobs. She sewed for others and made costumes for clogging dancers, worked at the sewing factory and worked at the Yorke Restaurant on weekends. Flea markets were her passion, but the job that gave her the most pleasure was being a wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her family. Her home was always full. From the time her oldest child was born in 1955, until the end of 2021, she had children in her home. She and her husband had never lived alone. She not only had raised her children, but many others as well. She joined the Ohoopee Baptist Church when she was six years old. She mostly attended Baptist churches, but in recent years attended Oasis Church of God. Her most favorite part of church was always Sunday school. She loved to listen to SBN Channel and Donnie Swaggart. She was preceded in death by her parents, and seven siblings, Hulan Higgs, Mildred Higgs Hodgson, Meldra Higgs Collins, Winston Higgs, Mary Higgs Graham, Jean Higgs Herndon and Doris Higgs Morrison.
She is survived by her husband, Mr. Charlie Patrick of Lyons; three children, DiAnne Link and husband Mike of Vidalia, Andrew Jarriel and wife Debbie of York, South Carolina, and Ray Patrick and wife Carolyn of Vidalia; two stepsons, Ernie Patrick and L.C. Patrick of Vidalia; seven grandchildren, Heath Pittman, Nathan Pittman, Jennifer Barsoum, Heather Patrick, Justin Patrick, Andrea Jarriel and Misty Herrin; twenty-one greatgrandchildren; one brother, Rollison Butch Higgs of Lyons; two sisters, Dorothy Cobb of Lyons and Joyce Allen of Alabama; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life was held Saturday, April 2, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home. Burial followed at Ohoopee Community Cemetery. Services were conducted by Pastor Nathan Pittman, her grandson.
Pallbearers were Steve Reese, John Patrick, Joey Kirkland, Kevin Higgs, Williams Herndon, Jr., and Josh Grimes.
