TCHS Boys Are Region Champions
The Toombs County High School soccer teams took on Jeff Davis and Swainsboro last week in Region matchups. The girls are now 9-7-1 on the year and are 6-6 in the Region and the boys are 10-4-2 and are 9-2 in the Region.
With the two Region wins for the TCHS boys they have claimed the Region Championship.
Girls vs. JD
The Lady Yellow Jackets scored four goals in the first half of the game to take a 4-0 lead into halftime. In the second half of the game JD added two more goals while the Lady Bulldogs got a goal from Maritza Zamorano. The final score was 6-1 with Jeff Davis taking the win.
Boys vs. JD
The boys game was a close one that went to a shootout before it was decided. Both Toombs and Jeff Davis scored one goal in the first half of the game. Neither team was able to score a goal in the second half as the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
That sent the game to overtime. In the overtime period neither team found the back of the net sending the game to a shootout. In the shootout Toombs took the win 3-1.
The lone goal of the game for Toombs came from Gustavo Delgado.
Girls vs. Swainsboro
The Lady Bulldogs got a win over the Lady Tigers on Wednesday at home. Toombs scored one goal in the first half and one in the second half on the way to a 2-0 win. Zamorano had one of the goals, and the other came from Anyadi Colmenares. Josseline Zamorano picked up an assist in the game.
Boys vs. Swainsboro
The TCHS boys rolled to an easy win over the Tigers. Toombs put six goal on the board in the first half of the game to take a big lead into halftime. In the second half they added four more as they won the game 10-0. Julian Marin-Vital led the way with four goals on the night. Enrique Cruz, Axcel Barbosa, Jose Leon, Gustavo Delgado, and Jose Mata each scored one goal for Toombs. This week Toombs wraps up their regular season. They took on Region foe Bacon County on Monday of this week after presstime. They played their final games at home on Tuesday in a nonregion matchup against Bradwell Institute also after presstime.
