Wheeler Sweeps MCHS
The Bulldogs baseball team of Wheeler County High School swept the Montgomerry County Eagles last week in a three-game Region series. That moved their record to 8-9 on the year and 8-8 in Region play.
Game 1
The first game of the week was on Tuesday in Alamo. The Bulldogs got the scoring started in the bottom of the third inning with three runs. The Eagles picked up a run in the top of the fourth inning, and then jumped into the lead in the top of the fifth inning with four more runs. That put MCHS up 5-3 over the Bulldogs.
Wheeler answered in the bottom of the fifth with three runs to take the lead, 6-5. In the top of the sixth inning MCHS plated two runs as they took the lead back, 7-6. But the Bulldogs pulled away in the bottom of the sixth with five runs, which put them on top, 11-7.
The Bulldogs held in the top of the seventh to secure the win. Walker Bridges and Drew Dixon each drove in three runs for the Bulldogs. MCHS was led by Chase Cardell with two RBI’s.
Game 2
On Friday they met in Mt. Vernon for a double header. In the first game the Bulldogs got on the board first with two runs in the top of the first inning. The Eagles got back-to-back triple in the bottom of the inning as they tied the game at 2-2.

away with five more in the fourth for a 10-2 lead. The Eagles did score three in the fourth to close it to 10-5, but seven more runs from Wheeler in the top of the fifth inning gave them the run rule win, 17-5.
Bridges led Wheeler with four RBI’s with Dixon adding three more.
Game 3
The third game of the series was all Wheeler. It was a huge first inning for Wheeler as the put 15 runs on the board. They never looked back.
MCHS did score three in the first and five in the second, but Wheeler added one in the second and three more in the third as they led 19-8. Montgomery scored one in the fourth, and Wheeler put two more on the board in the fifth as they took the win, 21-9.
Kolt Bell, Layton Horne, and Rodgers all drove in three runs for Wheeler.
This week Wheeler County is matching up with Dublin for a Region series. They played the first game on Monday in Dublin after presstime. They will play a double header in Alamo on Friday with the first game at 4:00 p.m.
The Eagles are now 2-15 on the year and are 0-15 in the Region. They will take on Treutlen County this week in their Region series. They played the first game on Tuesday in Mt. Vernon. They will play a double header on Friday in Soperton with the first game at 4:00 p.m.
