4 Big Wins For Vikings
It was a busy week for the Vikings baseball team of Treutlen County High School. They played a three-game Region series against Dooly County and made up a Region game against the Eagles of Montgomery County. Treutlen got wins in all four games as they improved their overall record to 15-10 and they are now 13-8 in Region 4A Vs. Dooly Game 1 On Monday in Vienna the Vikings ran away with the win with Matthew Corbett having a big game, driving in five runs for Treutlen. It was a slow start for both teams and no one scored over the first three innings. In the top of the fourth Treutlen put the first run on the board, but in the bottom of the frame the Bobcats picked up two runs to take the 2-1 lead.
In the top of the fifth, though, everything changed as the Vikings batted around and plated 10 runs. Treutlen added three more in the sixth as they took the win by the run rule, 14-2. Trace Peeples and Pierce Walker both added two RBI’s, and Collin Beall picked up four hits in the game. Kolby McLendon got the win on the mound for the Vikings.
Vs. Montgomery
Against the Eagles on Wednesday in Mt. Vernon, the game was tied at 1-1 after the first inning. The Vikings broke the game open in the top of the second inning as they scored five runs to take a 6-1 lead.
MCHS picked up two runs in the bottom of the second inning to close it to 6-3, but another run for Treutlen in the third and one in the fourth gave them an 8-3 lead. MCHS added a run in the fourth and one in the sixth inning, but three more for the Vikings in the top of the seventh put them on top 11-5. MCHS did add a run in the seventh, but the Vikings took the win, 11-6. Kyland Page led Treutlen with three RBI’s and Tim Blair picked up three hits in the game. Harrison Rutherford got the win for Treutlen and struck out nine batters.
Vs. Dooly Game 2
It was a double header on Friday in Soperton for the Vikings and Bobcats. Treutlen won both games by the run rule. In the first game Treutlen scored one in the first and two in the second for an early 3-0 lead. Dooly picked up two runs in the third inning to make it 3-2, but in the bottom of the fourth the Vikings against got things going as they plated 13 runs to take the lead, 16-2.
The Vikings closed out the game in the top of the fifth inning for the win, 16-2.
Ridge Swain got the win for Truetlen and struck out 12 batters in just five innings.
Game 3
The final game of the Region series again went just five innings. Treutlen scored three in the first, four in the second, and three more in the third inning to lead the game 10-0. The Vikings scored two more in the fourth and then held the Bobcats in the top of the fifth to win by the run rule, 12-0. McLendon was on the mound and struck out nine in the win. Blair and Rutherford each had three hits in the game. This week the Vikings will close out the regular season with a series against Wilcox County. They played the first game on Tuesday in Soperton after presstime, and will play a double header in Rochelle on Friday with the first pitch at 4:00 p.m.
