Superior Service Award
On the evening of Nov. 17, 1911, three Howard University undergraduate students, along with the assistance of their faculty advisor, gave birth to Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated. Over a century later, the fraternity still observes its Founders’ Day and recognizes the contributions of others via Achievement Week Awards. On April 9th, 2022 Vidalia resident Dr. Henry Hankerson received the Superior Service Award as a result of outstanding accomplishments within his respective body of work and reflection of the fraternity’s cardinal principles of manhood, scholarship, perseverance, and uplift. The award was presented during the Founders' Banquet at the 85th Seventh District Meeting in Atlanta, GA. The 7th District is compromised of chapters from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Mississippi with over 6000 active members.
The Superior Service Award is given to one member who has demonstrated outstanding contributions and sustained concern for the activities of his chapter, his District and to the Fraternity. He will have served in a manner above and beyond the ordinary participation levels necessary to implement programs and projects.
Dr. Hankerson is now in contention for the International Award to be given at the Fraternity's Grand Conlave this July in Charlotte, NC. A prestigious honor he received previously in 2020.
Hankerson currently serves as Assistant Principal at Burke County High School in Waynesboro, GA. He is a member of New Vision Missionary Baptist Church and the proud father of Hillaree Hankerson, an 8th grade student at J. R. Trippe Middle School.
