Wheeler Splits In Florida
It was an interesting week for the Wheeler County High School Bulldogs baseball team as they played two games in Daytona Beach, FL. They picked up a win over Mainland on Thursday, but lost to Father Lopez on Saturday. vs. Mainland
Wheeler took the early lead as they picked up a run in the top of the first inning. They added a run in the second to lead 2-0. Two more runs in the third pushed the lead to 4-0.
Mainland plated a run in the bottom of the third and then two more in the fourth as they closed the lead to 4-3. Wheeler added one more run in the sixth inning and then two in the seventh to lead 7-3.
Wheeler held Mainland to just one run in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Bulldogs got the win, 7- 4.
Layton Horne led Wheeler with two hits and two RBI’s. Kolt Bell got the win on the mound for Wheeler. vs. Father Lopez
Things did not go Wheeler’s way on Saturday against the Green Wave of Father Lopez. The Wave jumped out in front in the bottom of the first inning with five runs, and then added four more in the second inning to lead 9- 0.
The Wave added two runs in the third and then two more in the fourth on the way to a 13-0 win over the Bulldogs.
Wheeler will wrap up their regular season this week as they take on the Red Devils of Hawkinsville in a Region series. The first game was on Tuesday after presstime, and they will play a double header on Friday in Hawkinsville with the first game at 4:00 p.m. Wheeler will also make a game up against Wilcox on Wednesday in Rochelle at 5:00 p.m.
