Wilcox Sweeps Treutlen
The Treutlen County High School Vikings baseball team took on the Patriots of Wilcox County last week in their final Region series of the season. It was a tough final series of the year as the Patriots won all three games, capping off an undefeated season for them at 25-0, and 24-0 in Region play.
Game 1
In the first game on Tuesday in Soperton, Wilcox scored two in the first inning and then three more in the second to take an early 5-0 lead. The Patriots added eight more in the fourth as they pulled ahead 13-0. One more for Wilcox in the fifth inning gave them the run rule win, 14- 0.
Game 2
In Rochelle on Friday, the Vikings played a double header with Wilcox winning both games. In the first game Wilcox put two runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Treutlen scored a run in the t o p of the second,but three more from Wilcox in the bottom of the frame put them on top 5-1.
Wilcox added two runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth to take the win 10-1 over the Vikings.
Game 3
In the final game of the series Wilcox again jumped out to an early lead with four runs in the first inning. They added three more in the second as they took a 7-0 lead.
Treutlen scored a run in the top of the third inning, but Wilcox answered with one in the fourth to make the score 8-1. Treutlen scored one in the fifth and another in the sixth to close it to 8-3, but two more from the Patriots in the bottom of the sixth gave them the win, 10-3. The losses end the season for the Vikings. They finish with an overall record of 15-13, and were 13-11 in the Region.
