12U Girls At Partin Park
The 12U girl softball tournament took place at Partin Park as part of the 59th Annual Lyons Youth Tournament recently. Lyons and Vidalia were knocked out of the tournament early, but Wheeler County battled their way to the Championship Game before falling to Long County.
In the first round Wheeler and Vidalia met in the first game of the tournament. Wheeler held a 1-0 lead early in the game, but VRD tied it at 1-1 in the third. The game was tied 2-2 after the fourth and then 3-3 after the sixth to force extra innings. In the seventh inning Wheeler plated two runs and held VRD to just one, to win the game 5-4. Also in the first round Swainsboro beat Reidsville 17-0.
In the second round Glennville beat Wheeler 5-2, Appling was defeated by Bacon County 8-7, Long County beat Swainsboro 6-5, and Lyons defeated Soperton 5- 3.
In the losers' bracket Soperton knocked out Vidalia 3-1, and Reidsville was defeated by Appling County 13-8. Swainsboro then knocked out Soperton 5-2, and Wheeler won by forfeit over Appling County.
Back up in the winners' bracket Bacon County beat Glennville 9-8, and Long County defeated Lyons 10-0. In the semifinals of the winners' bracket Long County beat Bacon County 9-4 to advance to the finals as the undefeated team.
In the losers' bracket Glennville ended Swainsboro's run 6-2, and Lyons tournament came to an end against Wheeler County, 6-2. Wheeler then got by Glennville 9-4, and then beat Bacon 15-10 to advance to the finals.
In the Championship Game, Long County held a 3-1 lead after three innings over Wheeler.They increased that lead to 5-1 in the fifth and took the win, 5-2, over Wheeler County.
The 12U girls play Tuesday through Thursday in Swainsboro in the District Tournament.
